How to use the Night System
Three steps, ten minutes.
The Night System has four parts and one job: move urine away from the skin the moment it arrives, without anyone getting up. Here is exactly how it fits, runs and cleans, so you know what the first night looks like before the box arrives.
Jump to any step from the bar above.
1 · What’s in the box
One box. The whole night covered.
No extras to buy before the first night. The cup and the briefs wash and go back on.

2 · Connect
Four connections, one rule.
The tube with the black wire is the cup tube. It uses the sensor socket and IN. The plain tube uses OUT and ends in the jug.
- Unit and jug lower than the bed
- Sensor tip onto the cup
- Cup tube onto IN
- Silver plug into the sensor socket
- Plain tube onto OUT
- Through the hole in the jug’s cap
- Switch on: red light
- Manual drain once
- Tap-water test
- Unplug the charger for the night
Set the unit and jug lower than the bed
Set the unit and jug on the floor or nightstand, lower than the bed. There are two tubes and one rule.

4 · Fit the cup and brief
Held, never tight.
- Snap the cup to the four stud points inside the brief.
- Fit the brief with the person lying down, and adjust the side straps until the rim rests softly against the body. It should feel held, never tight, and the sensor tip at the base of the cup should sit lowest.
Waist over 43 in (110 cm): fit the extension strap between the waist tab and its Velcro patch. Maximum about 47 in (120 cm). Warm the cup in your hands first on cold nights.

5 · Sleep
Lower than the bed, flat under the sheet.
- Set the unit and jug on the floor or nightstand, lower than the bed.
- Run the tubing flat under the edge of the sheet, with no kinks, so it is not pulled when the person turns.
- Two tubes: one from the unit to the jug, one into the bed to the cup.
While they sleep
Senses. Drains. Stops.
When urine reaches the sensor, the green ring lights and the pump draws it through the tube into the jug, then stops. Most cycles last a few seconds. The person feels a brief pull of air and then nothing; the skin is dry and the sheets stay dry.
- A little left in the cup? Very small volumes can sit below the sensor; press manual drain in the morning.
- The jug covers a full night for almost everyone.
- Green ring stays on? Check the cup is seated and the tube is not kinked.
6 · The morning after
Five minutes, then the day.
- 1Switch off and unclip the tube from the jug
- 2Empty the jug into the toilet and rinse it.
- 3Unsnap the cup from the brief
Rinse the cup and tubing with warm water, never hotter than 50 °C (122 °F). Brush the cup and the sensor tip gently with a soft toothbrush. Air dry.
- 4Swap in the second brief
The used one goes in the normal laundry. Two briefs means there is always a clean one.
- 5Wipe the unit and put it on charge
A damp cloth only; keep the unit and its ports dry. Unplug the charger before the next night.
7 · Now and then
Disinfect and descale.
Urine leaves scale in the tube and pump, so once a month run a food-grade citric acid descaler through them.
- 1
Disinfect the cup
Wipe the clean cup with 75% alcohol.
- 2
Mix the descaler
One 20 g sachet of our Descaler Pack in about 2 litres of warm water (or 10 g of any citric acid kettle descaler per litre), not above 40 °C / 104 °F.
- 3
Let the pump draw it through
About five minutes, then clean water twice.

8 · Replacement parts
The one part that wears out.
The sensor in the cup is the one part of the Night System that wears out. When the pump stops starting by itself, first check that the sensor plug is pushed fully into the unit; if it still doesn’t start, the sensor is due.
The maker’s guidance. The unit’s manual button still runs the pump until the new set arrives.
- 1
Screw it into the cup
The sensor screws into the threaded joint at the base of the cup.
- 2
Plug it in
Push the cup tube’s end onto IN and the wire’s silver plug into the sensor socket. The plain tube stays on OUT and in the jug.
- 3
Test the pump
Switch the unit on and press the manual button to check that it runs.
- 4
Test the sensor
Pour a little tap water or saline into the cup. The pump should start by itself.
