What is the Quietdry Night System?

A home urine-collection system for adults who need help overnight. A soft silicone cup sits inside a cotton brief; a sensor in the cup starts a small rechargeable bedside pump when urine arrives and stops it when the cup is empty, draining into a 2 L jug. Nothing goes inside the body, and the parts that touch the skin wash and reuse.

Who is it for?

Adults who cannot safely get up at night and are cared for at home: bed-bound, recovering after surgery, limited mobility, or nights when getting up is not safe. It is used lying down in bed. It is not designed for walking around during the day.

Why does it need a pump? Can't it just drain into a bag?

Drain-by-gravity pants work when someone is sitting up, but not lying down. In bed there is no downhill path, so urine sits in the cup or the tube and escapes at the rim when the person rolls over. The pump clears the cup as soon as the sensor detects urine, so it works on the back or the side.

How is Quietdry different from PureWick or Surity?

PureWick and Surity draw urine through a disposable absorbent external catheter (a 'wick') that is replaced regularly, which is why they sell refill packs of 30. Quietdry uses a washable silicone cup instead, so there is no refill pack to buy. PureWick and Surity can be covered by insurance in some cases and have hospital use behind them; Quietdry is a cash purchase (US$299) with a 60-night money-back trial.

Which fit should I choose?

Men: the standard tubular cup, for a penis longer than about 4 cm (1.5 in). Men (retracted fit): a shorter cup for a penis shorter than that, or one that draws back into the body, which is common with age. Women: a contoured cup with a raised rim that stays sealed when lying on the side. If you are unsure, email info@quietdry.com; the 60-night trial includes one free fit swap.

Do the briefs come in sizes?

No. The brief is one adjustable size with a Velcro waist tab and adjustable side straps, and two come in the box so one can be in the wash. On its own it fits a waist of 24 to 43 in (60 to 110 cm). For a larger frame, a waist extension strap about 10 in (25 cm) long is included in every box, which takes it to a maximum of about 47 in (120 cm).

Does it work for side sleepers?

It is designed for it. The soft raised rim is shaped for side-lying and the brief holds the cup in place when the person turns. Fit the straps snug but not tight and check the rim sits flat before switching on.

Is it loud?

The pump only runs while there is urine to move, then returns to standby, so it is off most of the night. We have not published a decibel figure because we have not lab-measured one yet.

How long does the battery last?

The pump unit has a 12 V, 2,800 mAh rechargeable battery with a four-LED level display, and the charger is included. We do not quote a runtime in hours until we have tested one. Charge it during the day and unplug it before the night: the maker advises against running the unit while it is charging. If it is put away for a while, top up the charge about once a month.

What's in the box?

One sensing pump unit, one silicone cup in your chosen fit, two cotton and mesh briefs, a waist extension strap for larger frames, one thick-walled 2 L jug with a carry handle and lid, one 2 L drainage bag, soft grey tubing (inlet and outlet, about 1.5 m each) and a charger.

What do I have to buy again?

No wicks, liners or refill boxes. The cup and both briefs are washed and reused. One small part wears: the sensor tip that screws into the base of the cup. The maker’s guidance is that it lasts from 10 days to 3 months, sometimes up to half a year, and 5 days to a month for people with diabetes. A new sensor comes with a fresh cup in the Replacement Cup + Sensor set (US$49).

How do I clean it?

Each morning, empty the jug and rinse the cup and tubing with warm water, never hotter than 50 °C (122 °F). Brush the cup and the sensor tip gently with a soft toothbrush, then let them air dry. To disinfect, wipe the clean cup with 75% alcohol. Briefs go through a normal laundry cycle. Wipe the unit with a damp cloth and keep it and its ports dry; never submerge it. Urine leaves scale over time, so once a month run a food-grade citric acid descaler through the tube and pump: dissolve one 20 g sachet of the Quietdry Descaler Pack, sold separately, in about 2 litres of warm water (or 10 g of any citric acid kettle descaler per litre) (not above 40 °C / 104 °F), put the cup and its sensor tip into the solution so the pump draws it through into the jug (or press the manual-drain button), pour it back and repeat for about five minutes, then draw clean water through twice. Descaler is not in the Night System box: it is classed as a chemical for air freight and cannot travel with the battery unit, so the Descaler Pack is sold separately and ships on its own.

Is there anything to be careful about?

Each cup is for one person only; never share it. Look at the skin before each use, and stop if you see redness or a reaction. Take care if the person is allergic to silicone. Keep the tube flat with no kinks, and keep the unit dry. For someone who is confused or has dementia, a carer should fit and check it.

Can it be used with an indwelling catheter?

No. Quietdry is an external collector for people who do not have a catheter in place. If a catheter is in place, follow the care team's guidance.

Is Quietdry a medical treatment?

No. It is a non-invasive, external, powered urine collector for home care (the US FDA classifies this product type under code NZU, Class I, 510(k)-exempt). It collects urine; it does not treat incontinence or any medical condition. For skin, infection or medical questions, speak to the care team.

Does Medicare or insurance cover Quietdry?

No. Quietdry is not billed to Medicare or insurance; it is a one-time cash purchase. Medicare Part B can cover external urine-collection pumps such as PureWick when prescribed and supplied by a Medicare-enrolled DME supplier, so check that route first if the person qualifies.

Can I use an HSA or FSA?

Many HSA and FSA plans reimburse incontinence supplies, but eligibility is decided by your plan administrator. Pay as usual and submit the itemized receipt we email with every order.

What if it doesn't suit the person I care for?

You have 60 nights from delivery. Email info@quietdry.com and we refund the purchase price in full once the pump unit and jug are back with us, or send a different fit at no charge. Worn cups and briefs do not need to be returned. You arrange and pay for the return shipping; we do not provide return labels.

How fast is shipping to the US?

Standard tracked shipping is US$9.99, and free on orders of US$60 or more, which includes every Night System. Orders are processed within 1-3 business days and usually arrive in 5-10 business days. DHL/UPS Express (3-6 business days) is available at checkout for US$79.
